Hello Raiders! This is an exclusive interview with Ridgetop’s finest new librarian Mrs. Robinson. This is Q and A with May! M: “Hello Mrs. Robinson, thank you for joining me, would you mind if I asked you some questions about our library?” R: “Sure go ahead.” Q: “What’s new at the library this year?” A: “We have a lot of new books this year.” Q: “Is there a way students can request new books for RMS to buy?” A: “Yes, we have a suggestion box, or they (students) can talk to me.” Q: “What is different about the library this year than last year's library?” A: “I didn’t try to change a lot, I’m new this year with this position so I wanted to learn more about it before I started to change things. But I did move myself completely into the library, so I’m never in the office.” Q: “What made you want to be a librarian?” A: “ Well, I didn’t give it a lot of thought before, until someone told me that I would be a good fit. I really like books and technology so I thought I would give it a try.” Q: “Is there anything you feel RMS should know about their library?” A: “The library is a good place to get stuff done.” You heard it here folks, if you need to get some work done, or if you need a new book you can get into, come to the library! Thanks for reading, this has been Q and A with May! By Natalie Williamson
SILVERDALE - At the start of every new month, all the students that had perfect attendance get rewarded. At Ridgetop Middle School, all students with no absences for the previous month are called to the cafeteria. As a reward, the students are given ice cream and are allowed to talk to their friends. The students find the table with their last name and receive a certificate stating that they had perfect attendance for that month. They then receive their ice cream sandwich bar. Students do not get to go back to ASH (Academic Study Hall), but instead they are allowed to stay in the cafeteria the whole time and talk to their friends. Because of winter break, the last attendance ceremony Ridgetop Middle School had was for both November and December. The next ceremony will be at the beginning of February. This party could motivate kids to come to school because they get free ice cream and time to talk to people they like. They also get a certificate, which may make the child proud they have had perfect attendance. BY: ALEXANDRA FORTNEY
SILVERDALE -- On Wednesday January 11, 2017 sixth graders filed into the lower gym to begin Wonderful Wednesday, an indoor “recess” during Academic Study Hall. January’s Wonderful Wednesday rewarded sixth grader’s with no D’s or F’s with free play in the gyms. When asked if she could change or add anything to Wonderful Wednesday, Khazzi Villanueva said, “I would want to have a chance to watch a movie.” When inquired what her favorite part of Wonderful Wednesday was Alexandria Yeargin replied, “My favorite part of Wonderful Wednesday was being able to play on my tech.” There were three activities the 6th graders could join: scooter races, basketball shooting, and dodgeball. If a student didn’t want to participate in any of those, then they could have sat on the bleachers playing on their technology, overlooking the scooter races, or watching kids shoot baskets. Wonderful Wednesday happens every month, and alternates from sixth grade, to seventh, to eighth and back to sixth again. Seventh graders will have their Wonderful Wednesday on Wednesday, January 25. Eighth grade’s Wonderful Wednesday (or Fun Friday) is next month, February. |
