By Ally Toms SILVERDALE--On Thursday May 5th, seventh graders at Ridgetop Middle School gathered in the lower gym during the first three periods of the day to learn why they were chosen as leaders and how to be a leader to the incoming sixth and seventh graders for next year. Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) is an organization whose purpose is to provide support for the kids who are not ready for middle school that are shy or just need someone there to help them with any questions or concerns they may have. Their main goal is for the other students and staff to show the newer student that it is ok to be themselves and to enjoy middle school while it lasts. During Thursday’s WEB Day Ridgetop students participated in many activities such as keeping a balloon up with their group without it touching the floor, playing simple tag, writing words of wisdom to the incoming students, and designing their own t-shirt for next year.
With teachers Laura Rarig’s, Ashley Kellie’s, and Benson Cleverdon’s help, WEB Day happened and it helped the students who were chosen to take on huge responsibilities. As Cleverdon spoke to the students about why they were chosen to be leaders, he said how amazing, caring, awesome, funny, and responsible the students are to take on such a big job. This small amount of time the kids had learning about WEB was a great way to get the 50 chosen seventh graders prepared for next year and to also tell them how much the staff want the sixth graders and their parents to feel welcome because it will be the first time this transition has happened to Ridgetop as a school.
