SILVERDALE--On Thursday, April 20, 2017, the Ridgetop track and field team faced Klahowya for the first meet of their season. The season started with a win, in both the boy’s and girl’s division. In the Men’s varsity 400 Meter, eighth grader Alex Mirador took the win with a time of 60 seconds, with the Klahowya runner with a time of 61 seconds right behind him. Also a big hit on the varsity men’s team was the 4x100 relay, with seventh graders and eighth graders, Christopher Kono, Keanu Martin, Joshua Willis, and Matthew Willis, with a time of 49.94 seconds. In the Javelin 600g, Alexander Larsen made his way to the top by throwing his Javelin 76 feet and beating his opponent with a toss of 66 feet and 5 inches. For the girls’ team, in the sixth grade 100 meter, Xaylie Kahue raced to the finish line in first place with a time of 14.5 seconds with her Klahowya opponent only one second behind her. In the women’s discus 1kg, Olivia Holland and Emmilee VanDeGrift both beat their challenger with lengths of 41’8” and 41’4”. It was a great win for sixth grader Natalia Redd; in the women’s long jump she beat her competitor by 2” putting her in line for first place. Teammates Jacqueline San Juan and Aaliyah Chandler took the top two spots in the high jump. The girls in the 4x400 relay, 7th graders Kaylie Mehlenbeck and Jasmine San Juan and 8th graders Madison Saunders and Hannah Mehlenbeck crossed the finish line with a first place win, having a time of 4 minutes and 52 seconds. Though Ridgetop didn’t win all of the events, they still won quite a few of them. The Ridgetop track team did an awesome at their last meet and beat most of their Klahowya opponents.
