By Tyler Wasnock SILVERDALE--The Ridgetop lady Raider Fastpitch defeated CK 14-1 at their first game on Wednesday, April 20th. When the team arrived, they were surprised to see that Central Kitsap Softball field was all grass, and very uneven, but they got comfortable and made due. The team believes that they specialized in their accurate and fast throws as well as batting in this game; two home runs were hit, one by 8th grade shortstop, Molly Gates, and one by 8th grade center fielder, Kolby Hall in the fourth inning that went far into the outfield and resulted in an RBI (runs batted in) count of 3. When asked how she thought the team did on their first game, Molly Gates answered, “I think that the team did great, especially for it being our first game. We battled hard and put everything that we learned and practiced into the game.” This is Ridgetop’s first girls fastpitch team since the early 2000’s, and the team is proud to start the season with a victory. The game ended early in the 5th inning because of the mercy rule, which states that a baseball game shall end any time after five innings when a team is 10 or more runs behind and has completed its turn at bat.
The team is still practicing to improve their base running and batting skills so that they are ready for their game against Marcus Whitman on Monday, April 25th, to which they hope will be a success. Comments are closed.
